Connecting with the right therapist is often a very frustrating process. It’s even more difficult if you don’t feel like you match well with traditional therapists, or if you don’t really like talking about yourself or your feelings.
I have been in practice for twenty years, and over time I’ve found success working with clients who value my practicality and plain language. I approach therapy as a collaboration between two experts — you, the client, are the expert on your life and the problems bringing you to therapy, while I am the expert on how people in general grow, heal, or thrive. Our job is to work together to identify and clarify the problems or patterns in your life with which you may be struggling — and ways to change them for the better.
I will spend a substantial part of each session listening deeply to you. I will also offer you reflection, strategies and tools for achieving the goals that we agree upon. I believe this approach allows for deep mutual respect while still clarifying how the therapist/client relationship is different from other supportive relationships, and how it is meant to be of particular benefit to you.
